I believe there was an article about this in the August issue of Excellence.

i was surprised to see that the 951 has a better road holding index of the equal year 959. .87 for the 959 and .89 by car and driver i believe it was. thought the # for magazines that can actually get good results is .90-.91 on the 951, and probably more then .87 on the 959. Thats disappointing for the 959, exciting for me and other 951 owners though.

I've seen registered 959s before. There's one here in AZ (with the plate "959") that has shown up at PCA events before.
You can get them on the street without that new law, it's just a hassle to do it.

I think the 959 is being bought more for its historical collector value than actual performance. While a monster in its day, it pretty much gets walked by Porsches modern twin turbos these days. That excellence article with the X50 996TT being right next to the 600 hp or whatever 959 is a good example of that.

ah, but to own the very first awd 911 based two turbo machine... what a glorious automobile. i'll take a silver one was this the first car to sport sequential turbocharging in a road application? in any application? i think its a sexy beast; it would make a fine daily driver

Didn't Bill Gates owned one (or still owns) one of the first production 959's in the US? He could not drive it though because it was not "legal".

I assume Gates still has it given all the trouble he went through in the early days. The story I heard is he had to keep it in customs bond because Customs wouldn't let it in. And then every so often put it on a boat take it out to sea and bring it back in again due to some regulation. I don't know about the last part but I can believe the first.

Thats phenominal I never knew it made that much boost so low 20psi will make a lot of power.. Single turbo Supras.. Hows the boost curve on this thing does it hold it to the rev limiter or taper off 1 or 2000rpm before redline?

Default Look Familiar?

Tell me this interior doesn't closely resemble a late model 944/968 interior!?
Not bad for a "non" Porsche to look like a 959 inside!

A while back I read an article, and alot of the 959 project was based on 944/928 tech.

Looks EXACTLY like a 964/993 interior to me, well except that one doesn't have a radio .

BTW, is it just me, or does a 959 seem a lot like a really fancy 964 C4 with some pretty slick turbochargers and an aluminum body kit? Does it still carry over the torsion bar suspension?
