I think the 959 would be up to the challenge of any production Porsche ever to roll off the assembly line. Even the new 996TTs. When you start adding mods, you start comparing apples to oranges.

Unbelievable that the 959 is over 15yrs old. A magnficant beast.

Isnt it hilarious that the EPA and DOT go to such lengths to keep 200 Porsches off the highways and byways of America because of pollution control, emissions standards, and bumpers. Do you really think one day from now when a pack of Caribou die in northern Montana for no apparent reason someone is going to stand up to the podium and say..

"If it wasnt for those damn 959s, we wouldnt have this pollution tragedy on our hands today!!!"

I bet 200 959s produce less toxins than 10 semi trucks or 100 IBM guys standing outside on their lunch break puffing on their Vantage Menthol Light 100s.

Pety.

Some of you obviously didnt take the time to actually read the article. You should, its 'chock full 'o great tidbits'. Like the fact that the newly legalized cars are wickedly more powerful than the spec cars, and no longer sequentially turboed.

And for my money, any car that can wipe the floor with a RUF GT2 is OK by me. And a 16 year old car being considered better than the McLaren is not small potatoes either.

For four hundred large you want your money’s worth. Canepa has undertaken back-to-back tests with his modified 959 and a new RUF GT2. The RUF turned 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and took 11.9 seconds to reach 100 mph. The 959 goes from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reaches 100 mph in 11.4 seconds. Top speed of the 959 is 215.

“We’re maintaining a McLaren F1 GTR,” says Canepa. “And after driving both cars, there’s just no comparison. The McLaren skips and jumps all over the
place. The 959 just squats and goes.”

200 959's have to be less harsh to the environment than an equal number of SUV's? Or any number of old Mercedes 300D's!

That 959 is FAST when modded to US spec! Scary fast!
