Paragon has that particular sway bar for $150.00. You may need to buy the adapters which i belive are another $60.00

nevermind i just found this

is this really worth the 300 bucks for just this rear sway bar kit? my car's suspension right now is completely stock. Would it be worthwile for me to get the rear weltmeister sway bar from paragon and the strut brace from KLA?

I believe this was the sway bar that Z-man was refering too...

Link

You will also need the adapter which is $90 and the droplink which is another $65. Figure itll come out to about $305 not including shipping and handling.

Techno Duck is right: I was referring to the Porsche M030 968 sway bar.

The Weltmeister sway bars are a bit heavy, and 22mm is a bit much for you car, especially if you keep your front sway bar stock.

A bit of a history lesson: Porsche built into our cars an understeer handling characteristic. Why? In a panic situation in a turn, most people will either lift or brake: an understeering car will get back under control if this occurs. (Lift or brake when a car is oversteering, and the car will most likely spin.) On the other side, performance drivers prefer a car that has a little oversteer dialed in, since it allows them to more easily get the car around a corner. (Note: I am simplifying the scenarios a little here.)

A thicker sway bar in the REAR dials out some of that understeer. Too much of a rear sway bar, and you can will have too much oversteer. The goal in tuning your handling is to get the car as neutral as possible, with a slight hint of oversteer. And pay no attention to the import street racers: drifting (massive oversteer) won't get you around a track faster!!

So, I believe that a M030 968 rear sway bar, coupled with a stock front sway on an '88 n/a is a good combination, especially for someone who is just starting out in autox.

As always, YMMV,
-Zoltan.

It increases understeer. (strut brace)

Heh, when i get into oversteer situations i tend to punch the throttle a little more... :-). What is the correct method to use when experiencing oversteer?

In high HP applications you can usually throttle it out of oversteer (with correction to the steering). Should have seen me running laps in a Z-28 on a wet skid track :>)

Techno (or should I just call you Mr. Duck?!?) :
You have the right idea (transfer weight to the rear to increase traction), but I suggest a smoother approach:

Punching the throttle can break the rear tires loose: you are better off going from neutral throttle to WOT (Wide-open throttle) in a smooth and steady fashion.

3 things about suspension upgrades:
1. Know what you are getting and how it will effect your handling. Sometimes, what works for others may not work for your driving style.
2. Upgrade only one item at a time: that way, you'll know how each component effects your handling.
3. When you think you are ready for an upgrade, wait a little while longer: learn to fully use what you already have.

Just my $0.42,
-Z.

Considering when im having what i call fun; which is taking off ramps and on ramps going pretty fast i did happen to feel the understeer. I thought it was slightly odd as it was a rearwheel drive car, but from this thread i have a better understanding that its normal. I also think i will consider a rear sway bar first as the strut will just increase understeer which i do not like. I would much rather have a oversteer situation than an understeer. Anyway..maybe i should stop putting money into this 924S and start saving for my 951? Thanks for the information Z-Man.

I put up a huge suspension upgrade a while back. my 924S now has I think a 22mm front sway, the 968 M030 rear sway, Koni's all the way around, lowered, and 220# front springs. INCREDIBLE handling. BTW, I have no strut tower brace. I've been told they are unnecessary

I couldn't agree more.......

Except in my case I had one front shock leaking and my rear's were both shot. I wasn't about to buy OEM. Koni yellow's all the way around with the Paragon coil-over kit on the front with 200# springs.

Anybody else use that pargon kit? I can't say i've heard much about it.

I have it. Easy to install. Works very well. The 200s were just right for me.
