I checked with a local shop and they wanted around $4k to do it. The parts would be maybe half of that.

I seem to remember someone reffering to it as a sex-change. Does it pay, or does it make more sense to sell and buy another car w/5-speed already there?

much cheaper and easier to buy a clean manual. My brother may have his 84 5spd in excellent condition on the market very soon. 105k on the car. had 34k two years ago when taken out of climate controlled storage.

i think it was a kid daly944 or 944daly that did a conversion a few years ago.

IIRC- It was a PITA- a lot to swap- including the master/ slave cylinders..

but if you have the parts, the know how and the unlimited resources- I may donate the 924s for a "test vehicle" -- Dave might also!! You know- do a few test runs before doing the swap to your car....

OK, so I swapped over the pedal cluster from the 951 to the 924S today, in about an hour! ALL the tabs and whatnot were already there, so it wasn't bad at all.

That was my primary concern on this project. Next comes the clutch master and slave assembly. I've already unearthed (literally) the hole through the firewall for the master cylinder pushrod. It was also there, buried under seam sealer and engine bay insulation.

So far, so good!

I did that to my car and will be able to help you with every part of the swap. PM me and I can give you my number if you want.

legoland...it's not nice…

not to share

I'd bet the pedal cluster was the worst part...the rest should be no worse than clutch change (PITA)

the bell housing, torque tube, half axles, all must be swapped, shifter and linkage added but like I said no worse than new clutch

when you pull that automatic out...don't forget about that circlip part #25 in:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/944_...3-85/Pic47.jpg

between the engine and the flex dampener...you won't get the shaft apart with it left in (unless you have a cutting torch !)

Too much information to type, I rather say it in person if someone IS doing the project and maybe he can relay the message. I got to spend time finding myself a girlfriend..... damn I am too old to not be married with kids.

Instrument cluster is different, clutch master and slave, hydraulic line, cutting the small piece of metal in the tunnel where the shifter goes, etc.
