Stereo Questions
The PO of my car installed an aftermarket stereo, CD changer, and amp. I'd like to get rid of the stereo and CD changer, and replace it with a stereo with in dash CD and a removable face, but I'd like to keep the amp. Knowing relatively little about car audio, is there an easy way for me to check how many channels the amp is? What else do I need to know while I'm shopping for a new stereo?

Look at the amp and see if it is labeled 2*xyz watts or 4*zxy watts. If the label says 2*xyz watts it is most likely a two channel amp and if it says 4*zxy watts it is a four channel amp. You can also figure it out by counting the number of input connectors, one per channel.

I don't think my cam works, but I'm gonna go have a look at the amp in a bit so if it does I'll take pics. It's basically bolted on in front of the spare. I think it's really old, because it's pretty big, but hey, it works.

that's what matters most! It's probably enough for a 2chan amp but I'd make sure to have a fuse on it (if it doesn't already) as close to the battery as possible just to be on the safe side.

The amp itself has a fuse on it. You can see it in picture 4 at the bottom of the amp there. Sorry it's a bt blurry. It's a 20 amp fuse.

Please check by your battery for a fuse on the pwr wire asap. It's very important that it be fused by the battery also. This is a saftey factor if you (God forbid) ever be in an accident. Without the fuse by the battery, an accident may cut the wire and then you'd have a live connection to all that amperage by the gas tank. With the fuse, as soon as the wire grounds, it'll pop the fuse so you don't set anything on fire.
