Unhappy 944 wiring problem and two VIN's

I have a Porsche 944 with two VIN's on the window pillar and the drivers side fire wall is WPOAA093ZBN151040 under what appeared to be a sticker that was removed was hidden the second VIN of WPOZZZ93ZBN151040...

as you compare the VINS, first the front and the back of the car match...i.e. the car has not had the front chopped of and a different one put on.

and the WPO...93ZBN151040 is the same regardless of the AAO or ZZZ designation..

In other word there the same VIN one is U.S. an the other is the rest of the world.

on the driver side firewallVIN plate is a note at the bottom...date of manufacture is in the upper right corner...the date is 4/81...again the 1981 built clue...

The final clue is according to StevensCreek Porsche in San Jose, Calif. the car hit port 6/14/81 and was delivered to the customer on 6/22/81

All clues say this is a 1981 built car, even though the car was not introduced until late 1981 at the Frankfurt car show and wasn't sold in Germany until 1982 and the cars in the U.S. weren't introduced until 1983 and sold in 1983.

Here's my speculation:
1) a well connected US customer got an early 944 before introduction into the US..
2) the car was originally designated a non U.S. car but changed to a U.S. car with the AAO code...
3) the car was part late 924, in wiring (hence the non match of color coding and other numbers like relays) and who know what else, perhaps some 924 parts were used before a total switch over to 944 parts
4) I should be using a late 924 wiring diagram

Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

A sincere thanks to anyone that can answer this perplexing mystery...

Best regards,

Michael Yoon

I can't confirm or disprove anything, but if it's true that's a pretty unique car you have there.

Isn't that vin # for a 931? WPOAA093ZBN151040
As for the AA0 vs ZZZ, I recall a post a few days back that suggested that the chassis where all ROW because they where manufactured before the final destination of the car was known.

I think I recall a Bruce Anderson article stating exactly this (chassis is ALWAYS ROW) - the ZZZ VIN isn't a problem at all - the AAO VIN plate is put on last, once they know where the car is destined, thereby determining the engine, emissions, ride height etc.

I think you have a totally regular car.

I don't think you should jump on the guy for asking a question. It's his first post, make the guy feel welcome. geez

Just my opinion.

Ditto. If you don't want to be involved in a redundant post then just skip it and let other people answer it.
