i spoke to ghe guy with the z28. it is the first year of the last generation. no t tops to leak, every other option except the automatic.
he has two sets of rims (chrome SLP and factory), hotchkis tower brace & trainiln arms, lingelfelter sway bars, SLP springs and bilseins. a calloway intake, msd spark and hypertech chip.
the guy says all the paint is original, 31k miles original clutch. no paintwork, never used in lousy weather.
he doesnt want me to look at the car tomorrow because it is supposed to rain. he says he has a one car garage and just bought a Z06.
i asked if it was ever juiced, he says no. i asked about the mods, he said the front dipped too much when braking, and had too much sway.
all the power parts he did because they were bolt on.
the add ons cost about 4500, which should improve the car quite a bit. dont forget my konis were close to stiff.
for the low 8s, and easy maintenance i might just defect. then i can see how much adrial kick my *** at the autocross.

Buy the Porsche for weekends and a beater with only liability coverage for the commuter train parking lot.... you've already lost 2 cars there, why chance it again? Hot looking Z28 is probably a target for thieves.

How would both cars compare handling in the snow, since you need this car to make it to the LIRR station?
Also, try out the Z28 on a pothole-ridden street. They're beautiful on smooth asphalt, not too fun on crummy roads.

I gotta figure a car with those kinda mods was run hard. Why else would you get the mods?? Chipping a large Chevy engine = drag racing. Why get into that after a tight German car?
Like Randy says...a Z28 is also a target for thieves...that's the kinda car THEY would drive themselves!

Tom, if you are going to be transporting your daughter in one of these cars, maybe you should select the one that can take a good lick. 944's are built like tanks, can't say the same thing about F-body's.

Wouldn't even know where to begin. They are two different concepts, different philosophies. I liken your choice to my desire owning a Mustang Cobra. For reason too long to describe here there's no way I am going to trade in my beloved 4 cylinder turbo for the muscle car. I believe that the choice of car is an extension of the driver's personality. So the question remains which car will best represent your driving pleasure? Just my two cents...

i vote neither of them. you already have a great classic muscle car and a 944 na would feel like a step down. my vote is to get something that's good in all weather and comfortable. go with an audi with quattro

so tell me what to get. here are my requirements
Minimum curb weight 2800lbs
Manual Transmission
Hatch
Two doors
Autocrossable
Lower maintenance than an S2
Under 50,000 miles
Back seat
Under $10,000
Prefer airbags, and ABS.
Somehow I think I am left with either a twenty year old 944 for 5 grand that can instantly become 10 grand, or a five year old camaro firebird. The main reason I am thinking of a Z28 is because of the low mileage, and excellent condition. Here is a link to the guys ad.
