Default 70mm offset wheels?

Will 70mm offset 16x9 wheels fit on the rear of my late offset '87 951?

They'll probably need a 20 something mm spacer. I have a friend who is selling some C2 wheels with a 70mm offset. What car do you think they came from? A 930?

993 actually...
I'm not exactly sure what the offset value means. Does 70mm stick out farther than 55mm? Or extend in more. How does running spacers work? Do they affect the strength of the hub/wheel connection?
If it would all work out with a pair of spacers, where can I get them, and for how much?

You should be able to run them on the rear just fine. you can get spacers on Ebay for a relatively low amount of money. They "should" work without though. There is nothing for them to hit on the rear. AFAIK.

The factory rear on a 951S is a 60mm ET, a 70mm ET should work OK based on looking at the rear of my car and the math behind it.

The rear wheel/tire will be 10mm further in than stock, which wont be as visually appealing as something that sits further out. It will also be reducing rear track, whether 10mm has an effect or not...I dont know.

What does the offset measure to? The wheels are 16x9 vs the 16x8 stock wheels, so will they go an inch deeper into the car, or stick out an inch more?

Neither, they are one inch wider but sit 10mm closer to the inside of the wheel well from the hub. They should sit the same as the 8" wheel just 10mm further in. 10mm is roughly .4 inches, this will likely be offset (looks wise) by the addition of an inch.

Measure from the back side of the wheel rim to the bolt mounting surface.

Thanks Jeremy.
If I buy them, I'll take you up on the offer. Are they made some place local?

AG,

If you buy them I can help you measure them up and get the right spacers cut. Depending on the thickness of the spacer, I can have them cut for nothing. I have a full machine shop with a couple of cnc's at work that I can use.

I assume these are the 16" 993 wheels, I have a set on my 88 951.
I did use a spacer in the rear but do not remember the size, I actually want to get a larger spacer for them.
The fronts will fit fine,, they are 55 or 52et I think.

Yeah, they're 16x7/9 993 wheels. They look just like the wheels on Marc's 951 in his avatar.
I'd probably use them for the street (since they look good) and my scratched PDs for the track.
