Question That thing for getting the oil filters off

Where can I get that wrench for removing my oil filter? I mean the kind that can be used with a ratchet. Anyone got one of these online somewhere?

Or Canadian Tire if you're in Canada.

You have to open your headlights to get clearance to get the filter in and out also. Just a quick tip, good luck.

FWIW, K&N Oil filters have a 1" nut on top that makes them quite easy to remove without any "special" tool.

no two filters are the same and one end cap/ratchet removal tool won't work on all filters because of different fluting on the end of the filter.

i tried one from walmart, checker, car quest and ended up with one removal tool that would work with the bosch filter i put on but not the filter that was on the car when i got it, it took waterpump pliers/screwdriver to get the old one off.

the k&n sounds pretty slick.

I have a thick metal oil filter removal tool from Lisle that is spring loaded and fits a wide range of filters including any filter that will fit on a 944 type. It has a 3/8 suare opening for a rachet and only works to remove filters. Put the new one n by hand. I have never had to raise the headlights to get the filter out . Be prepared for a gush of oil down the motor mount and right onto the right front swaybar bushing. There are several techniques from making a funnel out of foil to your basic plastic grocery bag. I use a long rag that diverts the flow into my oil drain pan. Seceral ounces wull come out when you loosen the filter.

Good Luck !!!!

I use an oil filter wrench that is a nylon band attached to a square tube. The nylon band wraps around the filter then you roll the band around the tube until it is tight. Then an extension fits into the tube (I think it is 1/2 in) and with a ratchet I can rotate the filter. Just a simple strap wrench, but was the only thing that eliminated interference.

Any regular oil filter wrench will work, if it doesnt then you put the last one on too tight. They should come off by hand if you have strong hands. It is pretty rare (and I have done thousands of oil changes) to really need a wrench. Some time when you are feeling sadistic remove one from a Q45. The filter is the smallest on the market and I have yet to find a wrench that works. Lastly, you should be able to eliminate the fluid in the filter by punching a small hole in the top of it. That should cause it to drain back into the engine.

I couldn't get enough clearance for my wrench when I changed my oil filter, So I jammed a large screwdriver through the filter and turned it off that way.

Also works, just make sure you can get it off. Sucks to have a hole in it and no way to move the car!

Funny how when you only use Mahle oil filters (like I've heard you're supposed to), once you pay the $3 for the proper wrench, you never need to worry about if it'll fit or not. Yes, I bought the wrench for the filter the PO put on there, no I haven't needed it for any of the filters I've put on there.
