Default 944 Console Lighting

'New 944 owner ... first post!

I have the good fortune of just having purchased an 85.5 944 from the original owner, a 68-year old German fellow who has serviced the car at the original Vancouver dealership since 1985. Every scrap of paper, including his handwritten notes, were saved in a binder and forwarded with the car. She's a beaut!

I've just removed the dash and instrument cluster to replace a few assorted light bulbs and I've searched for burned out lighting for the rocker switches on the shift console (r/wiper, r/l mirror control, fader ...). I can't find any bulbs, working or otherwise. Were these switches not backlit?

Thanks.

I think the only switch that has internal lighting there is the central lock switch, at least on my car.

No, on mine they are not lit, do u have an early or late dash, although that may not matter.......

Congrats on the purchase BTW, post some pics when you can. Also there are a lot of active members here from Vancouver, and lots of events there.

P.S. What car did the German fellow replace the '44 with out of curiosity?

Late dash.

He bought a Merc ... E320 ... he wanted to keep both but seems he couldn't justify the insurance!

Yeah, I've never seen those lower rocker switches backlit except for the central lock, and only when that is engaged.

Welcome IMor - join the local PCA-CWR and you'll find a LOT of 944 guys around to help with the details. I know the source for a lot of those little bulbs and what NOT to do when changing them - like frying the $80 HL switch - yes, there is a pea bulb in there too - when changing a $0.79 bulb.

For panel lights, the Perry951 LED's are tough to beat, and the IceShark Lights are AWESOME (Brian needs a commitment from customers before he'll make another run of harnesses though)

There's a lot of PCA events still for the season, so take a look at http://www.pca-cwr.org/default_ie.htm

These switches are not lit on my 92 968 either. I too have to get behind the dash because the PO gave me a full package of replacement bulbs for the dash.
