I did research on the pad about a dozen years ago. you can get the upper pad with a 928 part number for very little $$. the tension is on the upper pad, hence the grooves from the chain.
I think we concluded in a very unscientific study that if you change the pad at about 60k miles and the tensioner at 120k miles you should avoid any issues.
as for the chain, there was discussions about a dozen years ago about not changing them because of wear on the sprockets. tifosiman posted some very good stuff on the subject from his experience with bicycles. believe it or not, a bicycle chain and the cam chain work the same way!

I would add cooling system hoses and clamps to the list if you are draining the coolant anyway. Check the radiator fans, wiring, resistors, thermo switch and relay for correct operation as well. You want to prevent overheating, timing belt and cam chain failures on these engines.

Factory hoses have lasted a long time on my cars, I have only replaced ones that have been damaged, not aged out. And I actually prefer the factory clamps to what I have found (without tons of searching) these days.

Genuine Porsche isn't really required for much aside from Motor Mounts or stuff that is hard to find.
I think I have gone Genuine brand (through a dealer or otherwise) maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years, everything else is good enough from the big suppliers mentioned above.
I'll also recommend looking into semi-solid motor mounts if you're planning to replace yours. Both Pelican and Lindsey Racing have them at prices that compete with the OEM parts. If you don't go that direction though, certainly avoid OE mounts as Spencer recommends, they have a horrible reputation for coming apart in a year or so and replacing them is difficult. I just finished installing the Super Mount products Pelican sells (motor & transmission) and they are well made, reasonably priced and easy to install. Not so easy to remove though...

Spencer recommends using the OE mounts. Read his post again.
OE stands for Original Equipment - in other words, bought from a Porsche dealer.
OE is often better than OEM, sometimes significantly so.

Mike

I wasn't disagreeing with Spencer, he's right that on the subject of Motor Mounts, you either want Genuine Porsche parts or a completely different design (i.e. sold or semi-solid). Lot's of folks tell horror stories of OEM hydraulic mounts that flatten out in a matter of months. But you can find some nice alternatives for about what OEM mounts cost. As I said, I chose to install the Super Mounts Pelican carries.

Yep, typo. Happens to me all the time!
I get annoyed at the misuse of terminology. People thinking OEM is the same as OE.
Some of the mounts that people are claiming are OEM are not even OEM - they're just pattern parts. Cheap copies.
At least the aftermarket solutions (like you have) are obviously not OE, OEM or pattern.
Cheers,
Mike
