Question Replacement shift ****

Any one know if there is any aftermarket replacement shift ***** that will fit a stock 944 shift lever? Mine is getting really narly. If I can't find any I guess I will make one out of teak. That ought to look pretty good.

Thanks in advance.

search the threads, lots of posts on this. The only thing to watch out for is the rattling - it will rattle. The factory **** is very heavy by comparison to aftermarket - I think this was to help dampen the mechanical buzz / rattling. Ask anyone who has aftermarket.

I've tried lots of things to dampen that rattling including changing / checking all the shifter joints and connections, but am living with it - esp 3rd gear.

Oh, the aftermarket ***** tend to make the shifter sit pretty high too, unless you cut off about 1" of the shaft. Easy to do.

I went with an aftermarket Momo **** and dealt with the rattling for a while, but I eventually went back to the factory ****. The aftermarket one also seemed to add more slop to the throw and it didn't shift as directly.

I don't think Porsche wanted you to use aftermarket *****...the factory ones does damped a lot of rattles and vibrations.

i went with a momo ****, but i had to buy a 24 buck adapter. it initially rattled but i took it off, put a napkin over the tip of the adapter because my guess was it was the adapter shaking up against the ****...and it fixed it! so good luck to ya.

I bought from ebay a leather gear shifter from an AUDITT for my 924, I ground down the shift lever and slipped the **** over it. Fits well and looks much more elegent but the weight problem is an issue.

have the same rattle problem, i bought a boxster **** modified to fit the
944 shaft. it rattles in 3rd and 5th gear at about 2800 rpm. this winter i will take it out, try to remove the top section (the gear labeled part) and fill with molten lead. i'll let you all know how it works. glad i'm not the only one with this issue, (thought something was wrong???)

I put a Momo **** on mine and made a couple of masonite shims that lie against the flat side of the stick and are curved on the other side where the **** rests against them. That provided a good firm fitment. It look great with a new Mommo leather shift boot too.

OZ - any pics to show us what you did? Do you mean shims INSIDE the **** where the shifter slides into the ****?

Does it eliminate the rattle? Did it rattle before and not after?
