Default your engine out experiences needed!

Hi All,

My engine is coming out next weekend to be replaced. I just wanted to get a concencus of opinions of the best way to remove it.....

Car up, or engine up?

Any useful tips on what to remove to get better access?

TIA!

I found dropping it and raising it from underneath to be the best way to avoid scratching things up, but if your engine bay is a bit scruffy that may not matter. I have pulled the engine from the top before and that works too, I think I did it that way at the time because I was having trouble raising the front high enough in my newbie days.

Stuff I remove = manifold, alternator, AC compressor and PS pump.
Each time I have left the bell housing attached.

I dropped it out the bottom too. I put my car up about 27" on 4 - 6 ton jackstands. It looked scary but was very stable. I removed the radiator giving me plenty of room to pull the engine forward as I also left the bellhousing attached. I lowered it onto an old piece of carpet and pulled it out with no problem. Did the whole thing by myself.

Best of luck with it.

Hpw long did it take. Just wondering if it might not be quicker to do the clutch this way so I can fiddle with hoses etc. at the same time.
