hello gentlemen,
guess it's polite to do a formal introduction. my name is james. i'm a 21 y/o biomedical engineering student at florida state university. i've been reading this messageboard since my uncle handed me an '81 924 turbo last april. the old girl bent all her valves when the timing belt gave up, among a list of other problems. i took on the car as a project to mildly restore and moderately modify, but to build the car into what i want turned out to be far too pricey. so regretfully, i will begin parting her out this fall to get my money back out of her. however, i did manage to fall desperately in love with the 924/931/924S/944/951/968 cars at some point while i was in, on, or under the 931. i am on the lookout for a decent '88 924S with the m030 suspension and lsd. i also wanted to add how great this board can be at times. this board has one of the highest maturity and technical insight levels i've come across. and there is a great deal of pride amongs its users as there should be. so thank you for all the information y'all have already provided and thanks in advance for all the knowledge to come.

I don't mean to sound like a turbo snob, but get a 944 turbo, if you've got the cash for it. You won't regret it.
Smart move going with Engineering, btw. It'll provide you with Porsche money when you graduate (and Engineering is fun!).

Well, welcome to the group. Formal introductions aren't usually done, we're quite informal. I watched the 'Noles just stomped the Heels at Keenan Stadium last Saturday. Attendence was 59.8k, a sea of blue with a corner of red. Carolina has a long way to go before it has a good football team. Basketball is historically a different story.
What are you disposing of from the turbo and is it a 5 bolt suspension? I have an 82 931 coming back together nicely.

ag951 : nope, don't have the money for a nice 951, i could probaby find a ratty one, but i'd rather wait a couple years until i have the money to do it right. (can't frickin wait) the 924S will serve it's purpose while i'm still in school and still be fun to auto-x, maybe later a supercharger kit, hence the 924SC in my boardname.
dave: got tickets to the maryland game saturday, gonna be fun. and almost everything is for sale with with the 931, however nose panel is already sold and the interior is crap. but just about everything else is game, and yes, it is the 5-lug.

did you mean there is no LSD on your car or on "any" 924S's?, because i'm positive the sport editions with the m030's have them. and sorry, i have definately made up my mind to get the m030 w/lsd for autocrossing purposes. thanks for the offer though.

Well, I already have a good header panel and the body is straight. I need headlight covers, rear bumper, and some spare engine stuff. Tranny is good, interior is great. Wiring harness from the engine compartment would be nice if the 81 fits the 82. It would save me some headaches. What wheels do you have?
Good luck on finding a M030 anything. That's quite rare now, but if you're up to it, look into an early na and then add Leda or something similar.
