Mmmbeer,
I all I have to say is nice job! Your car (well, both of them) give me inspiration. Your website and Seb's website are ones that I spend a lot of time on.

Here is the link for the early 944 that was converted to a 968 turbo.

This has been one of my favorite bookmarks over the last few years to watch their progress. At one place on the website, they explain that the reason they did the swap was that newer, higher HP cars cost a lot in taxes and that this was a cheaper and better way to go about getting what they wanted. They definetly are doing a nice job.

wow i started this post back in 2002!
i fixed up my crappy 944 na as much as it was worth and sold it for a $1000 profit, got a crappy 928 now...
i'd still build a turbo, you can just get so much more if you do the work yourself, although its harder to do, but if you want ease and turnkey and dont work on cars you must buy. to me all 944's are the same, just some parts are different... most people who mess around with porsche's long enough feel the same way like this 944na that broadfoot racing turned into a widebody 944 turbo with over 400hp...

with all due respect J, why is the condition of your suspension system AT ALL a consideration at the beginning of so many of these projects ? this is about tractive power and no mechanical failures from your radiator to the rear wheels, what's with all the obsession about suspension components when so many of these cars are not long for this world ?
i understand your ride is gonna be incredible when you are done, and you deserve all our praise, but you guys, when you do your cars,
i am confused about all the obsessing about Konis and big Reds...

edit: i misread your post... the suspension is a consideration because the engine is pretty much a given, everyone knows what to do with 944 turbo engines, its in the recipe book, but the suspension is more of an unknown and has a lot more options, vendors, parts to choose from, same with brakes, wheels, etc. everyone knows that you put in a low compression 944 engine work the head, oring, widefire, timing, bigger turbo, vitesse kit, blah blah blah...
edit #2: and after you do all that engine work you still only get 300whp.

i have been wondering... these forums leave me very curious about how many of the original cars have been scrapped, how many are still running, how many are being cared for with all the proper work done as weekend cars, and daily drivers, how many have been resto-modded or restored, for the street and how many are running on the track...
i wonder how many have been parted on Rennlist...i think a seeing-eyes view of the whole story would be very interesting.

FWIW... I paid 3200 for my 951, and if left stock would have right around 5K in it.. it is my daily driver and I have gotten roughly 12000 miles in the last year I have had it...
even with the additional 5K in go faster parts I have put on it has proven to be very reliable, and fun car to own... so much so I haven't managed to get around to fixing my N/A since it was parked 2 weeks before I picked up the 951..
it is FAR cheaper to BUY a turbo car, than to make one out of a N/A car...
just like it is FAR cheaper to make a ls-1 car than a simmilar performing turbo engine (almost double just for the machining and parts...)
BUT this hasn't stopped anyone who wants to from doing it... there are plenty of 3L+ turbo cars running arround, and a few turboed N/A cars...

this lends some explanation to Lart taking such offense to that guy who was parting the old beater for such an outrageous price a couple weeks ago. maybe there are fewer 944s out there than i thought.

He didn't take offense to it being parted, he was taking offense to a parts car being sold for high retail... when it was a candidate for parting, or needed to be put back together...
