oooooooooooh with spacers? i see

looks decent, interior looks kinda roughed up though..
i would give that seller a rundown of what needs to be done to the car, just from your perspective, not to insult her, and give her a final total with car price + repairs and maybe she can come down on the price a bit for you. also it wouldnt hurt to tell her you just lost a 15K 944S2 ... looks decent otherwise

But..what about records??

Not to sound like a broken record here (for you kids, records were vinyl discs that spun around on a turn table playing music), but a $3k car can easily turn into a $7k car! In this case, a $7k car with dents, scrapes, and a beat up interior?

records are nice but more often than not there simply arent any
i bought my car without any real records and so-far-so-good i think
but then again i probably just got lucky

hes just buying a 944beater, if there is such a thing, so record shmeckords, can always sell it if it blows up right? part it out. i got dibs on wheels! see thats 400 bucks easy right there...

I guess with such low miles, you can assume it won't have much engine/tranny wear, which is good. And if you like the brown interior and beige(?) paint (looks like Simon's color in the photos), then putting some money into it wont kill you.

Tough choice.

Tom--you get option codes from the seller, or are you going to see for yourself tomorrow? The sun should be out at least!

Try to convince the owner to consider what the repair $$$ will be. I got my very well maintained, historied, 83 w/ sport package, spare motor, parts,
x-tra glass for under $2500. I just looked at an 87 Turbo with a bad RF fender 2 weeks ago for $1800. It ran OK but too many issues that could push it well over $5K quickly. I passed on the 951 due to expected trans, power steering, and possible wastegate repairs. The availability of well maintained oldies is just too tempting for me to gamble on another project with unknown history. That 951 is still sitting there, makes me feel good that I passed on it seeing how I was the first one there with cash in my pocket. Good luck and hope it works out well.

simons car is grey, this one is gold, and the interior is brown. the crap on the interior wipes off with a damp rag. i had it on my rx7 many years when i took the cover off. and mine was stored in a garage.

the rip on the seat is the only bad thing.

if the wheels are 16" and straight, how much can i get. the door panels are the coveted ones with porsche on them. the body needs say 400 for the quarter. the scrape on the bumper is common.

if i didnt sell my seats to Noah i would have popped them in and used them.

the clutch should go only because of rubber deterioration. my brother still has his original konis on his 84.

so what is the right number if 3k is high?

Are you sure they had 16" wheels in 83?

I believe it was an option in 83 because the 911's had it and they shared the same offset...

I do like those Porsche door panels! You could get the seats re-covered in pleather like the rears...as long as your brother has one, you kinda know what you are getting into!

So, asking her bottom number is a good idea. You never know what she'll come down to. To her, lowball could be $1500!?

Tom,

Look at the option code sticker in the spare tire holder. That will tell you if it came with 16" wheels from the factory. You can decipher the codes from looking up past rennlist topics. BTW; if it has code 220, and the transmission is good, you're in luck because that is limited slip. Personally, I think $3k for a car that doesn't run is too high. Whatever you end up paying figure in another $2k or so over the next couple of years for maintenance and repairs. It seems no matter how well these 944s were cared for they all need the same amount of work! If it has original struts and shocks they will be junk.

My 83 is red with the brown interior. I like it. It is strange enough that it looks good. Of course my car is slowly turning into a race car too, so more of the brown is disappearing!

Oh, and one more thing <insert shameless plug here>. I have a good set of Koni yellow adjustable strut inserts, almost new top strut bearings, and 250lb springs available if you end up buying the car.

Tom-
an early with the body damage that one has cant be worth any more than MAYBE 2K. I dont think I would pay that much. The good news is the wheels are probably worth 700 bucks! I would keep looking, I got an 87 Turbo for just more than she is asking and it is in pretty darn good shape. I bet you can find a late NA or even better a 924S for about the same amount of money or less. Mileage means nothing on these cars, parts still break and they are still expensive to own. Further, that one doesnt look like it lead the good life, at least from the pictures.

hey Tom, I know this sounds dumb but I'll run it by you anyway since you didnt reply to my (other) email:

if you're keeping the 16" C2 wheels (7/8 size right?) for your early offset, since you're gonna have to use spacers anyway, any chance of you trading your 7" fronts for my 6" fronts? This way you dont have to push the 7's out any further than you should have to, the 6's should line up right at the fender with your spacer - 7's will stick out.. and I get some wheels that fit. Just a thought

I agree with Matt! Look harder for a newer car, with higher miles. If you have to put a clutch, shocks, struts, etc in to a car, it might as well be a little better taken care of!

what im really curious about is the radiator. if it cracked, how do i know the block isnt.

for two grand i would gamble it knowing i could get my money back replacing the fuchs with cookie cutters, and parting it out. if the dash has no cracks etc.

my wrench doesnt want to gamble on a motor i cant hear.

yes tom. the 84 we parted out had 16" fuchs all around, its in the owners manual as an option. those are 7 all around by looking at the picture, and by seeing this they have to be 16, fuchs in 15 came 7 and 8 on our cars. weird, but thats how it is.
