Just wondering if anyone has ever built or heard of a ridiculously high powered NA 944 motor? I mean in the 400hp range, on the 2.5L block or even a 968 motor.... wonder what that would sound like. Not that turbos arent awesome, I just want to hear a 944 rev to ohh, about 12k.

I don't think that it's that bad of a question...

I don't have an answer for you but I think Anderson motorworks and Huntley racing do work for N/A and they could probably give you a good idea of what's possible.

Yeah I know dumb idea, but I reciently saw a friend do it to a Prelude; It was really quite sad (he ended up getting sponsered and got 1k worth of headwork done for next to nothing) did i mention ITS A HONDA (i dislike hondas) . Lemme see, 13.5:1 compression forged internals, titainum valve springs/rocker arm stoppers/along with all the misc. pieces needed (injectors, fuel mgmt blahblah. 114 octane leaded gas and maby a bit of nitrous for the last 50 hp? Or are the parts just not made for our cars? God knows how much it would cost, but there are alot of people out there with more money than good ideas... such as buy a turbo and shut up. Anyone got the *****/re-drunkulous amounts of money to try it?.. maby I should try asking in the cayenne fourms..

 

Companies like Anderson motor works build 3.1L 944 engines. I think they were getting like 230 RWHP. I think that it would be easier to start with a 968 engine or and S2 as they are already 3 L.

 

Just read the part about the nitrous. Just drop the engine to 8.5:1 with som turbo pistons and keep throwing the nitrous at it till it hits 400 HP. Easy and cheap!

Aw c'mon they could do it.

For at least 10 or 12 seconds. And after all that work they'd know how to install a new motor pretty well.

 

My '86 NON-TURBO

 

A Corvette motor would do it....I think the NA engine is pretty well tuned from the get-go, so any serious power seekers just get a turbo, it works out to be a lot cheaper or as much as the add-on parts.

Hey Marksport, how hard was it to do the polished intake manifold? I've got my engine torn down right now and want to do something like that. Also, how hard is it to keep it looking good? TIA!

 

The polishing was done by a wheel repair shop. You can do it by yourself but it takes abit of work. I think someone on the forum did a write-up how to do the polishing.

 

When you get right down to it, once you get past the bolt ons (test pipe, cone filter, chip, cam, lighter flywheel, etc.), you will still be way short of any "significant" horse power increase.

In stock trim the NA motor is rated around 150 HP, and with bolt-ons I'd guess you would come to some where in the 175 to 180 HP range (if you can trust the manufacturer's claims that is).

To go beyond that you need to consider forced incuction and/or nitrous, which by defination takes the motor out of NA status.
