have not needed washers this summer until the Sept, when I use the stalk I can hear the windshield pump running but no fluid exits, I would appreciate your advice to fix the problem

Best Wishes

Tom. Open up the hood and examine the plumbing. Theres a variety of valves built into the elbows and such. If theres a leak letting air in it has a tendency to drain back, and in conjunction with bad check valves it's hard to pressurize the system.

If the pump runs 30 minutes or so with fiddling with the tubing and such shoulg get you running, and identify a couple of whingy bits that need replacing.

The pump could be clogged from not being used.
Try (seriously) hitting the washer pump with a hammer to free up the clog.
Careful swinging and I unhooked mine from the tank and held onto it.
It worked on mine but it kept getting glogged again.
Ended up getting a new one from Tweeks.

Yea, i had a similar problem with my washer, i would need to hold the lever down for about 5 seconds in order for any fluid to start streaming. You should check the stop valve as that was my problem, you can find a replacement at a petstore for fishtanks if you need.

It's possible the lines are clogged - weed-eater fishing line stuff works great to clear them. You can clear the nozzels themselves with a guitar string or a pin. The lines have one-way valves in them: the idea being to keep fluid in them so theres no lag when you hit the lever.

It's amazing how complicated that system is, considering how poorly it all works. When it's all working right it does a really great job of spraying the car behind you.
