Heater hoses

Heater hoses
Working on a '83 944. It looks like the heater hoses go THROUGH the firewall to the heater core. do i have to remove the heater box to replace the hoses? I did a '91 S2 awhile back and the hoses disconnected at the firewall...these go through the firewall.
