Unhappy Low Boost Problem

Looking for suggestions before we pull the turbo. The car is only making .3-.4 bar even with the wastegate disabled (which should take all the electronic stuff out of the equation). The shop pressure-tested the hoses, etc. inspected the testpipe and down pipe for any blockage, and has run out of ideas other than a bad turbo or possibly collapsed cross-over pipe in some place they couldn't see. Turbo doesn't have any play in it or friction, but apparently that doesn't always mean anything.
Any of you wrenchheads have ideas?

If that is a stock wastegate, you need a shop that knows the slightest bit about 951's or you have to give them an ethics lesson. Your wastegate is probably bleeding boost - shim it (free)

It is a stock wastegate (not the best) but my shop, although small, works on a lot of 944s, including 951s and race prep. They had disabled it (shimmed it) right off the bat. Would some kind of intake problem cause low boost even with the wastegate jammed open?

First off the waste gate should be shut to make boost. Try pinching the line that runs down to the waste gate and see if you get more boost, be careful you can see 20+ psi boost doing that. One way to see if your waste gate is stuck open is to start the car and let it idle, the part of the exhaust after the waste gate should not get hot with the car just idling. You could also have a leak in your intake lines that can limit your boost.

You could have a wastegate stuck open. Have them check the wastegate exhaust pipe physically with their hand after starting the car to ensure that it stays cooler than the downpipe. I assume they have checked the recirc valve and looked for exhaust leaks.

Also, try posting this on the 944 turbo and S specific forum to get more responses and keep from making the second page so quick

Good luck,
Rob
