Default Cleaning water stains off windows

I've done a search, and there seems to be several products out there that claim to remove "stubborn water stains" from glass. I've tried a couple of products found locally here, and frankly they just don't work.

What do you guys use successfully, for removing water/mineral stains from your windshields and all your glass? Just how hard do you have to work at getting these stains off, say the rear window hatch? Would a detail shop be the way to go since my glass has obviously not been throughly cleaned in god knows how long? TIA

I've never used this, but Eastwood usually sells pretty good stuff.

If you are talking mineral like from well water, I'm thinking maybe vinegar. I don't know if it will hurt the paint, as always, try a tet area first. Good luck

Paint on a window? Not an issue.

If you want to really clean your windshield first use windex and newspaper. ThenVineagar and paper towels. That will clean it, but leave streaks. To clean the windshield afterwards use Acetone. Not nail polish remover. Go to a hardware store and find the highest grade of acetone (read exspensive) and use that.

Both vinegar and acetone will strip anything on your paint job (wax and the like) so be careful and apply it on the paper towell, not directly on the windshield.

Never know who will just see a waterspot on the paint and go at it too, just a fair warning.

Vinegar followed by acetone, I'll give that a good try. Once its good and clean, then I'll give the polish a shot at it. Thanks guys!

What about a razor blade for the spots on glass?

The ONLY way that I can bet a windshield streak free is to do it close to sunset and park the car so that the sun is shining directly into the windshield so that you can see every last streak.

I told the wife I was leaving to pick up some acetone to use on my windows, and she happened to mention that she had picked up some stuff "somewhere" to use on her car windows, but said she hadn't tried it out yet. What the heck, I'll give a try......well low and behold, it worked really, really well! It removed all the water/mineral stains on my glass. Its called "Glass Care 2000" made by RainX.
A bucket of water, a mesh covered sponge (Bug-Gone Scrubber Pad), "Glass Cleaner" by Sprayway (cheap, ammonia free spray foam), somewhat tired arms, and its a done deal!
Thanks for all the replies, I'm still going to try out the vinegar and acetone process on my truck windows. I gotta see how this works!

Andy: You mean the mothers?

Simon/ Vinegar and acetone should do the trick, or try that glass car 2000 stuff.

I do have to point out that streaks are difficult to remove completely.

I was in the optics industry for many years. I would say that it took me about 6 Years to clean a lens without any streaks. And a windshield is much more difficult (you need an edge to come off of) however. With a little practice you should be able to clean a windshield fairly easily with few streaks using acetone. The acetone is more of a scrubber for nasty spots.
