Dear PWALN: If this small red wire goes to the ignition switch, it should not be grounded. It just may be the wire that energizes the solenoid on the starter to make it crank with the switch. If you disconnect it, the starter should not engage or turn over at all. But it will be hot (12 v) when you turn the switch to start. You should see the needle on your multimeter swing to 12 volts when you do this...Hope that this helps some...thanks, Tiger 03447
