What is a 83-34 928 worth?
Ok, here's the story - I found a 83 or 84 (I'm not sure) 928 sitting behind a local business. It looks like it's in pretty good shape, really dirty, but nothing missing or broken. It has been parked under a tree for the last three years, so the outside is REALLY dirty, but because it's been in shade, the interior isn't trashed.
On my way to school, I stopped by the business and inquired within. The car belongs to a sister of one of the employees. They are VERY motivated to get rid of it because the new restrictions of the location. From what the guy described I could probably drive it home with maybe just a charged battery. When I said they are motivated to get rid of it, I meant it, everyone inside was excited that I was interested.
It has Kaliforia plates, design 90 wheels, white exterior, black interior, automatic tranny, non-S4, but has a rubber lip on the tail. What do you think I could offer them and get away with? Like I said, they really need to get it gone, so I may get a fire-sale price. TIA!

Dang Sharky - you trying to start your own P-Car junkyard! If you thought the S was expensive to fix, wait till you enter the 928 zone.
If you're really serious you should query the 928 forum. Us 944 guys only have 4 cylinders to worry about.

I know, I'm starting a collection I posted this as well in the 928 forum, but this one is twice as active and doesn't hurt to get more opinions. I know about 928 part$, but hate to pass up a good deal. If nothing else, I can clean it up and sell it, but at any rate, it's worth exploring.

Just ask what they have to have. BTW- don't even try to charge the battery in the car. Remove it and then hook it up to the charger. Don't try to jump it either. Hooking up a charger or jumping it can fry the brain and cause larger expense. If you can get it cheap enough, parting it would be worth your while.

I hate jumping cars, wouldn't do it. I am only going to do this if the money is right, if the car runs - great, I'll drive it till it breaks. Otherwise, it gets parted out. Like I said, it's worth exploring.

Well, as an owner of an 85 928 and two 86 944's I would say be careful. They good thing about the earlier 928's is they are a non interference engine, so if that old unused belt snapped, you wouldn't trash the motor. However, that being said, while the 928 have twice the cylinders, I would estimate it at about 3-4 times the cost to repair. Much smaller group of suppliers (but they are great to work with Devek, 928 Specialists, 928 International.) Parts are $$$. And if something like the brain is bad, that's a minimum of 1200 or so. I guess its your choice, the extra power is fun (mine is 247 at the rear wheels, pretty stock number for a 85 and the pre 32 valve motors are more like 200 at the rear.)
I also might add that you almost need an electrical engineering degree to work on these 928's as well.
So, in the end, its what your up for. It would be tough to pass up a running car for 1000 or less, just be aware of the costs that may come after.

Before offering ANYTHING, ask what they want for it. Fingers crossed they will just toss out a number of a few hundred dollarr without even making any changes to the car. If you suggest an ammount it could be much higher then what they expect and you can't bargain them down after that. Let us know how it goes.
