Default 6" wheel doesnt fit :-(

i just replied to my own post but it was in another forum on rennlist, woops, anyway, the thread is here to read

to sum it up,
problem is: 6"-wide wheel doesnt fit on the front of my car
question is: will a 7"-wide wheel fit?

uhhh man just reading this post makes it sound like the dumbest question in the world.

you have to read the other thread for it to make sence.

im not familiar with the late offset cars but to me your front hub looks really weird... if the phone dial fits on it then its not a width problem. im guessing taking the center caps out dont make a differance? if it does you could grind off some of the underside of the centercap.

someone with the wheels would have to tell you. i only have experience with phones, and cookie cutters.

yea.. please read my other post, it was meant to be here (i didnt realize i was posting there)

i took the center-cap off the C2 (6" wide) front wheel and it still doesnt fiit.. its just that its very shallow, the middle tunnel-area, weird.

man what the heck. even in the front the grease cap sticks out a good inch. it looks like the dish in the wheel is a half inch. who the heck designed those things! i dont see how they would fit on any 944, maybe the 911 is different and theyre made to go on one of them?

hey you know. if you really wanted a quick way to get them on you could get some of those little 1/4 inch spacers off ebay for like 30$ or however much they are. then they would fit.

yea spacers would do the trick ...

but now im questioning the whole idea of using these 6"-wide front wheels to begin with. im guessing the 7" ones will clear the hub, plus they will be centered like they're supposed to be. 6" wheels (with spacers) will stick out too far, and without spacers, will simply be narrow on both inside and out. with proper tires this isnt so bad but they dont even fit.. i thought these were stock 968 wheels, odd stuff.

they sort of wobble around because the inside of the hole where the center-cap goes is tapered in, so it wobbles on the tapered part.

Simon-

Not sure why those do not fit. I have a set of the D90's in 6 x 16 and they fit on my S2 fine. Even have run them in AX because they have some A032s mounted on them. Have you tried to push the wheel so it sit flush on the hub? The fit might just be snug.

Cheers,

EDIT: Just checked the other thread, whoa the centerbore on those wheels sure is shallow. What year of 911 did the wheels come off of? My D90 set was from and '90 C4.

Simon-
I am guessing that you are gonna have to buck-up and buy two 7" front rims from wheelenhancement, etc. Those look very shallow (ie: wrong for your year car).

Pep Boys has 5/16" universal spacers for around $10 a pair. I would try that and see if that works. If it doesn't you could always return them.

I had Phone Dials that were 6 inch wide 15s on the front when I bought the car. They obviously fit OK as I was driving around with them on.

Careful with using a spacer, you'll have rubbing problems with the tire hitting the fender on bumps and hard corners.

The only thing I can suggest is having the center part of the wheel milled out so it's a bit deeper.

im just waiting for someone who owns the C2-5psoke wheels in 7" to chime in... i have my fingers crossed that the 7s will indeed fit, the 8s were perfect (just kinda big for the front) .. heh
