"Therefore, your theory above is not any good. Porting can be done in a way that it doesnt create "peaky" motors"

It ain't a theory... and I think you probably know this too. (Aside from the completely different rotor designs and combustion chamber shapes) You cannot easily port a 13b the way a Renesis has been ported. The "blocks" ("housings") of the Renesis are of a completely different design to allow a radical type of porting that was not possible with the older 13b housings.
Up until the Renesis redesign, the most you could get out of a (non turbo) 13b was about 315 hp with peripheral porting. There is virtually zero low end (anything) on these engines... they will not run properly below about 5,000 rpm.
You can somewhat less radically "street port" regular 13bs to around 200 hp, but the low end drivability and all over economy is still poor.
The Renesis offers about 250 hp with good drivability, and improved economy. It is a quantum leap over the older rotaries. I hope that Mazda really promotes this engine. It would be fabulous in a Miata (or Miata-sized car)
Phone up Mazdatrix and see if they can port stock 13b housings to Renesis specs.

I drove both the AUTO 207HP and the 6MT 247 HP.
Let me just say that they are trash. I hated it. It had no guts and didnt feel good at all. The auto weak one is even worse. My moms '02 325i is faster than that POS. I would take a 951 over it any day. Dont even waste your time goinng to test drive one. They must be joking when they comapare it to the Z-CAR or even the Infiniti G Coupe. My car owns that car in every aspec. I cant stand a car with almost no torque. Anyway that was my rant. Sorry about that.

I love it .. I think I'm going to have to go drive one.
That mazdaspeed rx8 is dead sexy.
I can see how someone would hate it - but I think it's perfectly done and very practical. Lets see if my thoughts change after I drive it.

My next door neighbor just brought home a blue one last night. He backed out of his driveway, and was looking up into my garage, as if he was hoping I'd noticed. I had, but unlucky for him he caught me pounding the daylights out of a stuck balljoint I was replacing in my Pathfinder. I kinda had my hands full.
I'll have to look at his ugly car later. I'll be neighborly, and lie through my teeth telling him how cool I think his new car is. No sense in hurting his feelings, he's already bought the thing.
I'll add my vote to the last-series RX7. Those looked really sharp.
