bouncing between 1ooo and about . . .35oo or so for about 3o seconds. only on cold starts. is this normal? car runs fine in all other respects, and never actually has trouble starting . . . .
it's done this since i bought it, and it just occurred to me that it might not be normal . . .

Its not normal, but my 87 S does the same thing periodically on cold starts. Ive had the car for 11 years and it started this about 4-5 years ago. Car is currently a dedicated track car, so it hasnt bothered me enough to track down the problem, but I would start with the idle control valve or the fuel mixture at idle (adjustment on A/F meter), possibly a failing throttle position switch. A lot of things could attribute to the pulsing. Sorry I cant be more help.
