Question a little wiring help please

ok here's the symptoms. hazard flashers work fine. when the ign. is off and i put a turn signal left or right, the lights in front and rear light up as they should leading me to beleive the connections there are good. however, when i try to turn signal with the ignition on, i get only the light in the dash. i've checked continuity in the black/yellow wire (good), and the black/white/greendot wire (good from switch to hazard and hazard to relay) when i checked the yellow/black i got continuity at every point on the relay panel. what's wrong with this picture? what wire do i need to jump to make this beast work again?

any help would be much appreciated.

p.s. haynes was pretty useless, and i'm sure everything is grounded up fine. however, looks like something may be grounded TOO well.

haha, i'd like to take you up on that, however for what it'd cost, i might as well have the factory put in a brand new wiring harness! lol

btw i've changed signal relays too with working ones, i doubt thats the problem.

Juat to throw it out there, not that it will fix the probelm. But I had a similar problem with my windshield washer. Voltage was getting to where it needed to be, but the pump wouldn't run. I cleaned the contacts on the switch on the steering column and it fixed it right up.

Can't hurt.

oh - one would think the contacts on the switch are OK since when i try to signal the light in the dash lights up, it just doesnt flash for some dumb reason.

Problem with my washer was that there was too much voltage drop to run the motor. When your car is off there is more voltage available. When running theres other stuff is doing stuff theres not as much juice available. Like I said, don't know that's the problem, just a suggestion.

Hey it don't cost nothing.

anyone with any other ideas... my feeling is its between switch and flasher switch, but all the connections there seem good.

Sounds like the flasher relay, did you change that out yet? It functions in different modes between turnsignal and 4 way flasher so the turnsignals won't work but the 4 way flashers will (since they usually don't get used much to wear out).

You can pick one up from any auto store for about 10 bucks. Just get an electronic one, not thermal, that has the same post markings on the bottom of the relay. And get a standard duty one, not one made for lighting up a zillion trailer signals.

I had this same problem in my 84.

It turned out that one of the bulbs was burnt out. It's a dual philiment.
My flashers and side parking lights would work but my turn signal would not.
The light on the dash would come on and not flash.

Does this sound like your problem.

i've tried changing the relay and the bulbs... i'm gonna go out and do it, usually if its a bulb its one on one side, and the others flash. i'll check it out.

yeah all four filaments in front are good. the flasher relay is used for both turn signals and hazard flashers alike... so if one works its not a problem with the flasher relay, its some problem with the wiring, but i've checked everything and i cant find what would be the problem.

anyone else really familiar with the wiring in this system?
