Default Do I have removable insert struts? (Pic attached)

Does this mean I have removable insert style struts (see picture)?

My car has the M456 package, which specifies "sports shocks front and rear". Some other folks have posted asking what this really meant, but I don't think anyone knew (there's more information about the more popular M030 and M404 packages instead).

Thanks!

The struts on the 924S are resealable. Note the top cap and threads near the strut shaft. Dal

Dal is correct. You are lucky, unscrewing a cap is easier than getting out the hacksaw!

Well, if those are as rusted on as they look to be, then you may end up getting the hack saw out anyway. I did.

Use lots of PB Blaster! Great stuff.

Given the corrosion here, I was thinking that I might have to sit these upside down, and let the pb blaster soak in down the threads.

When you guys used the hacksaw, was it to cut off the cap, then you could just replace the cap?

The clarks-garage site suggested a 3" pipe wrench to remove these, if you didn't have access to the Porsche tool 9186. Has anione come up with a better idea for getting these off, or an equivalent for the 9186 tool that might be available?

Thanks!

A big pipe wrench worked for me when my car used to have your type of struts, before I switched to the Turbo suspension and hacksaw struts.

Soak the threads for a day or two upside down with PB Blaster. Put the base of the strut housing in a vise with wood shims to protect the housing. Get a BIG pipe wrench and adjust it carefully so it catches on the small flat portions of the retaining cap. Caps will come off with some perserverence. Make sure you add a bit of ATF to the housing when you reinstall struts to improve heat transfer. Good luck Al

Yeah, big pipe-wrench is all you need. On a set of really rusted-on threads, I even peeled the cap off with the pipe-wrench because it wasn't turning...

We used a question mark shaped pipe cutting tool to do mine. It was quick and easy. And the cut was perfectly straight.
