Default Clock light question

So I finally got around to replacing that weird little bulb that lights the clock. It hadn't worked since I bought the car. To my dismay, when I replaced the bulb and turned the headlight switch on nothing happened. Is there a switch that needs to be switched somewhere? To the best of my knowledge, all the other lights are working fine, so unless this light has it's own fuse that isn't the problem but if it does which one is it? Other than the light, the clock works fine.

Haha! That's exactly what I said when I found out! Anyway I figured it out. Pretty damn complicated, it's a good thing I'm a licensed electrition AND a Porsche mechanic. The key needs to be in.

Haha..yes there is a light.

Is the circuitry where the light unit plugs in OK?

The board on mine was broken (and this is also where the clock light gets its power...) so I pulled power for it off the cig lighter light.

*points up

Hehe, I was kidding about the electrician and mechanic stuff. Just making fun of how I was getting all frustrated about the light not working and all I needed to do was turn the key. I have a lot to learn before I'm a Porsche mechanic, Q.E.D.

Anyone any ideas what the specs are for the clock bulb?

I got the Porsche Part # 944 641 900 00.

Is this a Porsche dealer only part, or should I be able to pick it up more easily (eg. Pepboys).

Also any idea what the bulb in the ash-tray is?

Thanks in advance

Martin

I recently had my bulb replaced, while doing other in-dash related stuff. Nice to have the clock visible at night. Didn't realize how much I would use it.

Ok... so thats how you're suppose to see the clock at night. Thought Porsche had just overlooked that whole seeing the clock in the dark concept or something. I guess that means my light is out too.

Speaking of, if anyone has a good display but a dead clock, I have one sitting around now (I installed a Rennbay A/F gauge in its place).

Let me know if you need it. I know, its usually the display that goes out first...

Regards,

Did a little bit more searching and found that it may be a #70 or #73 GE bulb or have be numbered 2721.

I got bulbs only at O'Reilly's and they didn't work, but the factory bulbs come in a holderand after I broke the first bulb I got the second one to work.

Buy 2.

around $1.50 for 2 and our cars use LOTS of these bulbs for all sorts of lighting - ash tray, defroster slide lever, HL switch (yes, there is one in there), etc.
