Default PCA Rules on attaching harness???

I need the rule on attaching my 5 pt harness to my harness bar above the rear seat.

Can I wrap the shoulder straps around the bar,
or
do I have to up and over the bar and attach it to the rear lap bolts?

It makes a difference in which type of harness I order.

The harness bar is only a guide for the harness, not a mount. You need to pass the straps OVER the guide, and then bolt into the rear lap bolts.

If you have the harness wrapped around a bar like that, do you still need a seat with the holes for the straps? I'd rather not have to spend $500+ just to be able to move my harness to the 951.

Ag951,
In Az you can get away with stock seats and just the harness bar. You don't need race seats. I do know of at least one guy that straps his harness to the bar (has two race seats actually). I would not do that however. Better to us the lap bet points from the rear seat and strap over the harness bar.

What kind of bar are you using? If you are using a Weltmeister or Stable Energies style bar then I would recommend attaching them directly to the bar. If you loop them over the bar and attached them to the rear lap belt mounting points you actually create a pulley effect and increase the loading on the bar.

The objective of the bar it to make the straps over the shoulders go directly back, NOT down at an angle. In a crash, you could be compressed by the straps, if they were at an angle.

The question I guess is, what will PCA club racing/DE allow. It's one or the other to the best of my knowledge. Thanks for the help!

Club Racing requires at least a rollbar and proper race seats.

It looks like intermountain does not mention harness. Stock seat belt are legal a minimum.

I have not see any specific rules on harness/harness bar mounting for anything less than club racing. There may be other rules out there, just I don't know.

Aslo PCA national has a "minimum standards" document for DE, but they just say equal restraints for both driver & instructor. No mention of harnesses or how to attach.

If you are goingto install harnesses then you want a roll bar and seats with the proper guide holes, search for this on rennlist and you will see many people agree that harnesses without the other 2 may infact be dangerous... for example, the stock seatbelts allow you to move down if you rolled and the roof crushed in, harnesses will hold you in place and force you to get crushed without a roll bar...
