Mein Gott!

Heartfelt sympathies to John and the crew and Shane's family. You are all in my prayers.

Please, please, please, anyone reading this who has depression issues or any thoughts of taking your own life for other reasons, please know that this is not the answer for your pain. Find someone to reach out to. KNOW that there are people who care.

I don't know if it was just my school district or what but I don't remember spending any time covering depression or suicide in any of my health classes. I don't know about the actual percentages, but I know two people who have killed themselves (I don't know anyone who has died of AIDS, smoking, or drugs.)

Sometimes its not as easy as reaching out to someone. Don't ask me how I know.

Sometimes there is no one to reach out to. Sadly.

It's not an answer, but it can seem to be at times. Sad that he is gone, and sad that he felt that way.

Best you can do is remember and look at for those in need and make a difference. Give that person someone to go to. If Shane is somewhere and watching, that is what will make him feel better.

You know, as a funeral director, I cannot believe the amount of suicides that have been happening lately. In a community of 18,000, we have had 4 suicides within 4 weeks. Ranging from 22 years to 50 years.

Come on people, do you believe how hard this is on your surviving family. You think this is a easy way out, you think you are doing your family and friends a favour. You are not.

Please talk to some one. If your family won't listen. phone your friends, if they won't listen, post here on Rennlist. You have to let people know you are having trouble and are not feeling well. Someone cares, believe me.

I hate doing these funerals. You guys drive me to drinking. This is NOT the way to go.

Zehnd. I understand your position, and I can imagine how rough it is on you. But that's not the way to get through to people like that/ Theres not always friends and familty to go to. And often a lot if it comes from mental illness.

Dont get frustrated, it's not your fault, not anyones fault. That kind of depression comes from many factors. It's sad.

Well said Sid. I was diagnosed with Chronic Depression. I have plenty of people to reach out to but that makes no difference to me. There are times when my life has turned to total **** and suicide seemed like it was the only viable option. Luckily for me, I had my car when I was feeling such a way. To be quite honest, that car was the only thing that kept me alive. My Porsche never hurt me in any way. It could never argue, complain, cry, or do me harm in any which way. It may sound crazy to have a car as your only source of happiness but everything else that was supposed to make me happy, didn't. People are fickle. Cars are not. People will lie, cheat, and steal. Cars will not. Do you all get where I'm coming from? There's always more to a situation than you know about. I can only hope that Shane is with God. He was only 4 years my elder....

I don't even know what to say... I am so sorry that another young person took their life.... It hits so many chords for me - at many levels.

My prayers for the family and friends that were left to deal with the grief and the pain and suffering.

My condolences to John and all at Anderson.

I don't what else to say. "What a waste. What a tradegy" seem so insufficient. I'm without words - but with many emotions.

My prayers and sympathies to you all.

Please don't ask me how I know, I've promised to keep it confidential. But sometimes someone - especially one prone to depression anyway - is just in so much pain that they simply can't bear it any more. One who attempts to take their own life because of such pain can't think clearly, they don't realize the pain they're going to cause others. They just can't take it anymore. Short of phyical restraint, nothing can stop them. If the attempt isn't successful, sometimes counseling helps, sometimes it doesn't.

I wish we had all the answers to depression, but we don't. And until you've personally experienced it, it's hard to understand. We were lucky, I'm so sorry that Shane wasn't. May you all be comforted by the fact that his pain has stopped.

Pat

Well said Patricia. I don't think that people know the seriousness of depression unless they know someone who has suffered from it.
