Cheap coilovers?

I much prefer the bilsteins over the konis, I've had a lot of seat time with both. What makes you say they're no better than the konis? And "actually probably"? Sounds like opinions and nothing more. Not trying to bust your *****, I'm legitimately interested. I LOVE bilstein hd's, they're awesome on the street and for hard driving.

I would check your shocks first before making any modifications.
My 86 was squating badly and based on advice from Himselhaus motorsports, I replaced the shocks and struts with fresh Koni's. The handling improved all around and the squat was greatly reduced.

In order to do the Koni rear coilover "conversion", you will need to use the Koni 30 series shocks which are provisioned for the threaded collars/sleeves. I have a set of new Koni 30-1303 shocks that I am converting. Feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in them.

Did you replace like new condition sport yellow koni’s with bilstein HD’s on your 944 and find the bilstein’s superior? In what way(s)?
HDs are an aftermarket performance street shock. An upgrade over original sachs/boge suspension - nothing wrong with them at all (I like bilstein), but equivalent to koni single adjustable sport yellow inserts (koni are fine too). And many will argue that the adjustable valving on the koni offers more versatility.
I would not replace factory M030 suspension (complete struts) on a 88TS or 89T with aftermarket bilstein HD inserts. That would adversely affect the value of a Turbo S spec car. The complete front struts, with factory ride height perches, are a better setup than the hacksawed aftermarket inserts, whether koni or bilstein.

So im still not clear on why this can't be done with konis?
I see sleeve kits available, and GC makes a complete conversion using them (I think?) not to mention the Koni 30's they all use 2.5" springs..... so whats the issue?

If you want cheap, I've got a decent used pair of early rear Konis that I don't need.
Drill out the lower bushing to 14mm to fit the late car. Send them to Koni to rebuild and have them set them up for the coilover use.

The kit you have listed is for the Koni 30 series and does not work on the Koni Yellow Sport 80 series. The 30 series come with 1/2" spherical bearing mounts and need special adapters and sleeves to mount them with the stock mounting bolts. The issue in this thread is the budget.

Also, their valving is not for high spring rates.
I know for a fact that they cannot provide adequate dampening for 30mm solid torsion bars unless they are brand new or lightly used.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I haven't posted or even looked here for a while, but still interested in upgrading the suspension after driving over the summer. Anything new that I should consider? It's still about 300WHP with stock '89 suspension, 44K miles. I've learned not to be on the brakes or too much on the throttle now to avoid spinning, so I think I should be able to handle a little stiffer suspension. Too much roll and squat. Any AZ guys interested in a run up & down the SF peaks, let me know.
