Default 944S2 Water Pump removed... crud!

I removed the water pump from my '91 S3 and was surprised to find a lot of what appeared to be rust. Oh, yeah and one of the studs broke off. Is this typical or is there a problem? I've already ordered a new water pump.

Another strangeness... the water pump was marked as a 2.7L. Is this proper for a 3.0L?

Also, there was a second thermostat installed under that elbow port. I know one is required for a turbo but a S2?

Not sure why a 2.7 pump would have provisions for a wet turbo... unless it's a 968 turbo pump? IIRC they had a 8v head with the same bore as the 2.7 head, maybe other components were shared as well.
