Default Holy cow 89 944 turbo 24k miles $35k!!!

A good friend is getting ready to list his 1989 944 turbo with 24k original miles for sale and says he will hold firm at $35k??? I'm trying to make him come back to earth because I had interest in it but my goodness! It's a white with black interior 100% original no mods no cracks inside been inside a warehouse and great I get its almost new but I'm not seeing any market values to support this at all...although I guess there aren't any that have 24k original miles?

he can ask anything he wants, but he does have to adjust his price based on buyers or lack thereof. i seriously doubt a 24k mile 951 is worth $35k, as you're now in SC/3.2 territory and those cars are steadily increasing in value. he'll need to find that one buyer that simply has to have his car for some reason or lower his price accordingly - assuming it doesn't sell.

It would be a better car with double that mileage imo if it had all the maintenance done and minor performance mods. Still wouldn't fetch that price though. A garage queen like that one would require at a minimum belts, rollers, water pump, all the rubber replaced and a good servicing. That's before you get to take it on the road! So basically you are buying a project for that money. These cars like to be used not stored.

Well definately water pump /timing belt.....rubber is immaculate no bad/dry seals anywhere on body. It was s very nice car and I would say almost brand new so I was interested but not at $35k.

while I think it's great you don't think the car is worth $35,000...

still, do you think you can just buy that car and drive it like it's 1991 and it has just a few thousand miles on it?

not trying to be rude but, you must be new to the netherworld between VW and Porsche.

I don't want to be rude either but don't know what you read to respond like that, or of course maybe I'm just to simple minded to figure out your sarcasm??? I wasn't intersted in purchasing another Porsche, however when you are invited over to a car collection and hear that the original owner is selling a 24k mile 944 turbo that has a solid service history and for all intensive purposes is new, was I interested yes...I told him I thought the number was around $18k and when he responded I was halfway there I was taken a back yes. Does it somehow make me clueless because I disagree with him on where $35k comes from? I think you would agree that cars although probably not rare don't come up for sale often these days without crack dashes, modified heavily (not bad), or half the service records missing. I would not hestitate to purchase we just happen to be $20k off!?

ok,

1. i can't think of any valid reason someone shouldn't own this car....

2. this is causing the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up.

3. it's missing an 'S' on the badge.

4. a 25 year old garaged 944T with a nice dash still might cost you 100-150,000 dollars....

5. the one thing we know is: its just a 944.

6. or to state this stark reality in another way; the only way you get to preserve it's modest value is by not driving it.

7. a dash from a low-cost purchase can always be recovered in leather.

8. the owner seems like a country club type.

9. this can work for you and against you. sometimes on the same day.

What makes an sc worth more than a 951? When I was in the market an sc was priced exactly the same as the 951 and frankly they just are not as refined or finished. Yes a lot of people will disagree, I just don't get it. They are fun cars in the same way my corvairs where.

As for the price, $35 k seams high, however it would be nice to see it happen. I agree that it is probably a mid to high $20k car assuming the car is perfect.

I guarantee you that regardless how the rubber looks it will all need replacing. Rubber deteriorates with age as well as use, 20+ year old rubber is not good. Suspension bushes, coolant pipes, vacuum lines and fuel lines at a minimum just to be reliable and safe.

Well I guess you'll have to take my word in it, I've own enough Porsches before to tell you this doesn't need replacing...I should take photos because it's that nice that why I can understand he has something that he has cared for and if he wants to be stubborn about price it's hard to argue. The only thing I would want to change our is the clear stone guards by wheel arches because they are slightly yellowed.

I posted this listing before, a '91 944S2 with less than 7000 miles on eBay with a buy it now price of $34K:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-944-...US_Cars_Trucks

I've seen this listing for about the past two months with no takers yet. Someone here also made known of a '90 944S2 here locally to me with less than 21K miles. These cars with low miles scare me even more as I don't know if they've been driven at all these past years. I agree with MAGK944 that all rubber parts need to be replaced. That would be the easy part for the mechanic but I would be worried about all the fluid leaks that could happen from old gaskets and seals, especially from a car that hasn't been driven for a long time, requiring disassembling parts of the engine and tranny. I'm not mechanically inclined so I would have to find a mechanic locally to me familiar with the 944, not to mention the cost. Still, I've always wanted a 944S2 but I can't seem to pull the trigger on one due to the age of the car.
