Default Phone Dials + Autocross = DEATH????!!

Just bought a set of nice 16" phone dial wheels, late offset, 7" front 8" rear. I discovered a few posts in the archive which said that the PD's were a poor design and could break if driven hard. Obviously since I autocross I'd like to know whether this is a real concern or just a couple isolated incedents.

I also have a set of "flat-dish" wheels in the same size - I can easily just use them for autocross - but I'm running out of space in my garage and I'd rather get rid of them.

Thus, the question: Have any of you autocrossed with PDs, and did you, in fact, die?

I know a few 944-spec guys that have raced on 15x7 phonedials. No issues at all.

I've already flogged them for one season, the PO did the same each year he had the car, including track events.

I have not heard of that before, did the posts you read actually site a specific failure of a phone dial or was it just someone's opinion that they are a poor design and might fail.

I'm thinking of going to 16" PD's so I would like to know.

Michelle, we love you too. You are one of the People who make Rennlist what it is. Where else can you find people who'll drive 2 hours in the snow to pick up a perfect stranger?

Phone dials are actually pretty strong, for a cast wheel. I have run them in both Auto-x and De's without any problems, and haven't met anyone who had ever had a problem with them either. You will see lots of cars with phone dials on the track. I am guessing that the stories about phone dials failing were either an excuse someone gave their SO so they could buy some 17" forged rims, or else some clown that didn't inspect their wheels after curbing them or doing something similarly stupid.

Run them, you'll have fun! By the way, we are over due for a KC get together... you interested?

Regards,

I feel compelled to make a lawyer/undead joke, but Michelle is too nice, so I won't.
