I just drove my '87 944 NA across the country from California to Boston, and pretty much killed in the engine in the process (blown head gasket, a scorched up cylinder, and a couple other things). So rather than doing anything that makes sense -- like buying a 951 or a 968 -- I'm contemplating doing an engine swap. I need a new engine anyways. Fortunately, I found a mechanic near Boston who's done it before (Kevin at Randolph Racing).
I've been lurking around the list for awhile, and I've read through some of the old posts about this swap. But any additional advice before I start this project would be much appreciate it!
If you've done this before, please shoot me an e-mail -- I'd love to ask you some questions.
PS: does anyone have a complete 968 engine for sale?

Hey Joseph,
Welcome to Boston & Rennlist! When I lived in the city, Kevin did most of the work on my 944. He's top notch, very reasonable, and as you note, has done a 968-->944 motor swap before (quite successfully).
You'll get lots of great advice here on Rennlist, but you should feel comfortable picking Kevin's brain--especially if you're paying him to do the conversion.
Best of luck!
BTW, Morgan (aka Turby here on Rennlist) is from Boston and was parting out a 968, including the engine, about a month ago or so. Check the Rennlist Classifieds for the ad & shoot him an email.

I think a 968 swap would need the tranny and torque tube as well. It would be mighty expensive to pay someone else to do it; probably a good deal more than simply buying a 951 or 968. You also have to swap the DME in some instances even with 8V NA engines. Do some searching here and you'll find plenty of details.
