Default crankshaft pully removal

Well tried locking the flywheel in place with a prybar and that held but I couldn't break the bolt free.
What I did break was the socket, wha I brought it back to sears the guy was impressed. He asked if I was using a cheater pipe, nope just a breaker bar.
Anyway anyone have an idea as to how to break it free??
I was told to use an impact wrench, but to use the one I have I have to take the condenser off for clearence.

HELP!!!!

Impact socket (1/2"), long breaker bar(1/2), proper ring gear lock...then pull like hell. Unless you feel like pulling the fans, radiator and condensor, then you can get it out pretty quick with good impact with about 400-500 fl/lbs of tq.

Take Care!

Get the flywheel lock as John said, then position the arm of the breaker bar so it points at about 5 o'clock. Then place a jack under the end of the breaker bar and start jacking slowly. I would suggest not putting the tip of the breaker bar in the saddle of the jack, as the bar moves in a parabolic circle, not linearly up and down.

Hope that helps!

When I removed mine, I removed the radiator to get my 450 ft. lbs. impact wrench in there but the bolt did not budge. I ended up borrowing a 3/4" drive breaker bar attached to a 1/2" drive socket. This along with a 3 ft. pipe attached to the breaker bar was able to crack the bolt loose. The second time around I was able to use my 1/2" drive breaker bar to break it loose since I knew that it was at the specified 150 ft lbs.

Ok so where can I get the flywheel lock from???
I have a busted starter that I was thinking about taking to a machine shop and have them weld the shaft to a peice of stock.
How much does the tool cost?

Thanks
Ken

I've been trying to get a flywheel lock all day. I think they're around $40.
I keep calling Paragon and I'm getting the "All our salespeople are busy" recording. I think they're all out driving Jason's 968TRS.
I need to order it asap so I can get it overnited.

I just got one ordered from Paragon. $34.25 plus $10 for 2 day shipping.
I think they only have one or two left.

Actually, it was a 4' section and we needed every foot of it.

I'd guess Pete to be about 175lbs or so and he put all his weight into it to break it loose. That's about 700 ft-lbs!

Regarding The Flywheel lock:

i prevoiusly wrote------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made one up off two flat pieces (3mm) of metal welded in 90 deg angle. One pice like 5x1 inches and 1x1,5 inc. Drill holes in the large one to fit the starter bolt holes. And file the piece you weld on to fit the teeth of the starter gear ring on the flywheel.

I took me like 10 minutes to make from scrap metal pieces from the garage floor. And i have used it 3 times now on the removing the cranck bolt.

TIP: If you are not into welding, make the pieces and take to any repair garage and have them weld it for you.

This way you'l have a almost free Flywhell Lock.

I used the flywheel lock and a borrowed 4' torque stick ... worked great and actually fit in between the fans (not much room to move though).

Great, I'm about 180-185lbs and I have a 5 foot bar. It should work fine.
