Thumbs down About to give up and take my car to a shop

I can't figure out why my car gets hot at idle. I just replaced the tempsensor for the fans and it didn't help. I have bled the system many times. There is no air in the system and the fans seem to be working properly. Under normal driving and even very hard driving for long periods of time the temp needle stays exactly horizontal. When I come to a stop and let the car idle it will soon start to rise. It will eventually just touch the top white line. What the heck else could this be? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do both fans come on after the temp starts to rise ? if not you may have a bad cooling relay. Is your waterpump in decent shape ?

Both fans come on. The water pump is a rebuilt unit with 3500miles on it.

Ok, another possibility is a bad thermostat and a less likely problem would be a partly blocked radiator. Both of which may only be problematic at low flow/idle.

When I was working on my cooling system I bought a thermostat that although was new didn't work right (I tested it first). So I went out and bought one from the Porsche dealer, tested that one and it didn't work either. Finally ordered another from the Porsche dealer and that one worked fine. I can only imagine the stress it would have caused me if I just installed the first and never tested it!

The thermostat is most likely ok since the car doesn't overheat while driving. If i were you, I would check to see if both fans come on at high speed while at idle. Also, how old is your radiator?

Flushing a rad won't do much if it's all blocked up inside. That happens.

So you think I should check out my radiator? How do I know if it is blocked other than flushing it out?

Hmmm... sound like my car 3 month ago. Cool on the run, but running Hot on idle, fans on like 2/3 off the time. I inspected the radiator, and discovered that 1/4 of the fine cooling finns was eroded away. Probably there mus also have been a deposit buildup inside it. I tryed radiator flush it, but it didn't helped. Then i changed the rad. And now it runs cool, Like 1.st line on highwy running, and never past middle mark in idle. Fans stay off most of the time evn on hot summerdays.

So i would suspect the radiator.

PS: it also helped Hot idle oil pressure.

I replaced my radiator as a precaution while I was replaceing the Thermostat, pump, ect. I took a pneumatic cutter and cut it open after I installed a new one and I was surprised at how much build up there was.

you may want to check the accuracy of the guage while your working on this system of the car. Obviously not your problem, but always good to know how hot the water is at a certain point on the guage.

My vote would be a partially clogged radiator.

Let us know what happens....
