Installing brake seals on 951 Porsche
I'm trying to rebuild my rear brake caliper on my 951.
I ordered some seals from sto tech because I have read that they fit the brembo brakes.
The eals from stoptech are just round rubber seals. But when I popped out one pistons from the caliper I see the scrapper ring on top and then a flat grayish seal about 1/4" wide with a steel ring in the center.
What gives

Ok I figured out the seals and have it all buttoned up. Is there any requirement for any paste or lube on the piston side of the brake pad or do the the pistons contact the pad dry?

Ok brake gurus, I bled the system with my trusty motive power bleeder. All the wheels went fine but the front right. I had the bleeder at 14 psi and when I cracked the bleed screw I barely got a drip - on both screws. Mines a turbo so each caliper has two bleed screws. I had my trusty wife push the brake and bled it the old fashion way and it squirted out when I cracked the bleeders. I have very firm brake feel but I'm concerned about that right front. Any thoughts?
I havnt driven it yet btw.

You should be fine if they bled using the pedal. The important thing with replacing seals is to get the pistons back in exactly the same place, there is a tool that determines the correct angle of the pistons or you can measure the angle. If you fitted new adhesive anti squeal shims on you pads there is no need for any anti seized grease.

I know for sure my na has a step in the piston that had to be set to the correct angle as I only did them two months ago. I'm quite sure when I did my turbo calipers there was the same step on two of the four pistons in a caliper and I just made sure they went in the same angle they came out. Did the Brembos a while ago so I might be mistaken/confused. I know I got new shims for the Brembos from the dealer. There were four per caliper and they adhere to the pads.

Ok. Well there are definately no steps on mine. However the PO put pagid blue pads on the car and there was no shims or tape. The pad did however have a piece of what looks like a thin piece of metal secured to the back of the pad. Looks to be about 1/32" thick or so and it's definately integral to the pad.

Ok, I dug around and found my spare set of Brembos and yes there is a step on my pistons as I remember (see pic). Also on those factory shims, I see them in PET on the turbo caliper page, they are round with adhesive on one side (item 22), found a pic of them online and posted below.

Those are fronts from an 86, could be the rears don't have steps idk. However the shims (Porsche called them dampers) are on the fronts and rears and apparently they firmly hold the pads to the pistons to stop brake squeal when you are not braking.

I would check PET to see if they were fitted to every model year, 86's definitely had them from the factory.
