***PICS*** Building a 924 CARRERA GTS replica using 944 turbo 951 running gear
#16
This is awesome. A cousin of mine did something very similar when we were kids. I remember super wide phone dial wheels and thinking it looked more like a 928 than a 924.
It kills me to see these cars sitting in the junk yard here in town. The wheels are about the only thing that gets pulled before they head to the crusher.

Reasonable question
The white car had severe frontal damage from a head on collision, and it also had foreign papers making it not usable for street registration. It was a bare shell that we only took clean body parts as the sills and rear wings.

Very very nice project!
What did you pay for the red 924?
How did the 951 engine fit? I hope you didn't do it the traditional Greek way by cutting the whole front section of the car and welding the 951 one...
Will this car be for sale or you plan to keep it? Can't wait to see the final result!

We installed the complete 951 subframe upon custom mounts we build on the front chassis rails. No cutting or monkey business as was done in the 80s.
Its not the first one we build. More pics to follow soon. I have tons of updated pics of the chassis. Glad you like this story.
It was not an easy path nor was it efficient financially but since we started this project there was no way back. Wait till you see the rest of our work guys.

Complete rear 944 axle installation experiment
See how clean the rear innr wings are after removing loads of debris and material.
Since we want to use 16" Fuchs wheels we would go for an early offset setup, although we had plenty of 944.2/968 donor parts lying around our place
