Default Stereo Help

I'm hooking up an Alpine 9811, and the manual says that the memory power needs to be hooked up to a constant 12V source. Where can I get this from the wiring in there? Do I have to run a new wire from the battery?

Thanks

What color is your memory wire?
You just have to connect it to the switched ignition wire, the green one with a white stripe.

I need to find a constant power for my clock, presets, etc. Wouldn't I need a separate 12V for this? WHat color is the 12V constant?

Thanks

Sorry, but I don't know the color for a constant 12v wire. If you have a multimeter though, you could find the voltage of various wires while the ignition is off.

The clock will have a 12V constant source if you can't find one in the radio wiring.

Constant 12V is usually yellow. A DMM is the safest way to be sure.
I don't know if it was a Porsche thing or a PO thing, but when I got my 951, there were 3A fuses on the two 12V lines, which caused lots of headaches, til I ripped them out.

Memory wire on aftermarket stereos is usually red and the constant power is yellow. I know this cause I'm in the middle of an alpine 8513 install. woot!!!

Porsche factory connections are green for the ignition on source and red for the constant power.

So....you'll want to connect the red wire from the stereo to the thick green wire from the car. Then the yellow stereo wire with the inline fuse to the red wire from the car(smaller diameter than the green one).

I swear....why can't everybody just use the same color codes on car wires....red to red...green to green.....would make life a lot easier.
