Default Replacing sunroof seal on 1983 944

Hi All,
I bought a replacement sunroof seal for my ’83 944 as the existing one was in bad shape. I ordered the OEM part from Pelican and double checked the part number against the catalog. I received it and it is definitely different than what came from the factory; specifically, it is much bulkier. After checking multiple parts sites and finding the same part numbers I assume that it must be correct. So, I put the seal on the sunroof (that part was easy) and the sunroof does not even close to fit on the car. No matter what I do, I'm off by about a half inch.
I’ve searched here and found a few threads on replacing sunroof seals but they all seem to be for the power sunroofs on the later models not the lift-off sunroofs of the earlier models. Has anybody had a similar experience with replacing the sunroof seal on an early 944? I’ve tried everything I can think of at this point.
Thanks
Dale
