944: Wheel bearing loose in rear trailing arm
Guys,
I'm working on a 944 and have found that the outer wheel bearings in the trailing arm are loose, to the point when you can slide them out with a screw driver. This is causing the wheel to wobble and you can see where the outer of the bearing is slipping/spinning in the trailing arm, i.e. spinning.
Has anybody come across this before?
Also does anybody know an aftermarket bearing part number as the genuine (113 501 277 A) appear to be NLA.

If the outer portion of the wheel bearing is spinning then the bearing is seized and if the bearing is loose you need a new trailing arm. The bearing is readily available from a number of sources, google "Porsche 944 rear wheel bearing". You can buy a good used trailing arm from anyone on here or ebay, theres a bunch out there and they are not expensive.
You will need some sort of puller to fit a new bearing in there or if you are lucky the used arm you buy has a good bearing in there.

There might be other damage due to driving with a badly worn bearing such as your hub axle might be bent. In fact a bent axle might have caused the bearing to fail like that. I would just buy a good used trailing arm complete with bearing and axle/hub and swap it right in.
This is a good seller and he also posts on here: Larts Parts
You need an early offset for a car up to 1986 or a late offset if it's a later car 87+

I have a set I just took off my race car. Late offset (1987 951), non-ABS. I just replaced the bearings last season. Probably less than 500 miles on the bearings. I'll let them go for $170 plus shipping. They are just gathering dust in my garage.
