Default Removed the oil pan, where should I check for damage?

While in pursuit of my oil pressure problem, I dropped the oil pan to see if the pickup tube was damaged. I can't see any damage on the actual pickup tube or on the screen so where else should I check for damage?

Here is the pickup tube. It looks pretty clean for 160k miles. The only thing I did was run it through some water.

#3 rod bearing? I don't know if you can inspect without taking off the rod, but it's worth a shot.

I forgot to mention that I will be replacing the rod bearings in addition to the motor mounts and obviously the oil pan gasket. Is there anything else that I should do while I'm in there? I read on another thread about seals around the pickup tube, does anyone know the part number of this or if any other seal needs to be replaced?

How many miles are on the rod bearings that are in there? If over 80,000.. I'd replace them since they are staring you in the face. If you do replace them, don't forget new rod nuts.

For the pickup... how was the O ring on the tube where it mates up with the Girdle? If that was torn or cut, it can cause an air leak. Check for cracks where the screen is welded to the pick up tube, and where the tube meets the mounting flange.

A few other items....

-The sealant on the girdle has gone bad or blown out on the main oil passage.
-The sealant on the pump, or the pump halves, has blown out.

Posting at the same time

You have the "while you are in there" taken care of. I am sure someone can get you the PN on the O rings for the pick up tube.

Unfortunately, you are about as far into the motor as you can get without pulling it.

I know what you mean about posting at the same time. If you search under my member number you will see several threads where others have beat me to a post. I hope that this solves the problem and that I don't have to chase it to the oil pump or have to replace the pricey oprv. I have seriously spent more than twice as much time repairing this car than I have spent driving it. Oh yeah, what kind of sealant do you guys use for the pan gasket? I'm leaning towards no sealant right now but will like to see what other people have used first.

A slight amount of Yamabond 4 in the corners. The rest is dry... and I mean dry. Make sure there is no oil on the pan or the block.

I didn't use any sealant for the pan gasket, and its still not leaking,. I'm running full synthetic oil. I used plastic strips to hold the seal in place while putting the pan in place.

Did you drop the crossmember all the wy off the car ?? or did you just undo it and lower it ?? (i did the last one)

I dropped the crossmember all the way. When you lowered it did you have to disconnect the ball joints or the tie-rods?

I lossened the engine mounts, the servo lines, supported the engine from above. Then i removed the crosmember bolts, and pryed it down with a crow bar, enough to get out the oil pan. It was a PITA since this was my first major 944 job, but easyer than working on the 924.

HMmmm. i remember now.. i also losneed the steering rack from the steering column, and the ccross member.
I also remove the bolts on the frame holding the sway bar, but i did'nt remove anything on the A-arm's, to not disturb the toe adjustment. So no tie-rod ends.

Took me like 4 hours to pull, and 3 to put back together..
