Just got the call - they said the water pump really isn't pumping. Most likely the impeller no longer grabbing the shaft.

Cha-ching. Paying someone to do a WP is a pricey job on these cars. Ugh.

Well, While You're In There (WYIT) a good opportunity to change the belts and check the rollers as well. They're gonna have to be pulled anyway.

I replace the Waterpump on a regular basis. I've also had the Thermostat blow retaining ring INTO the waterpump, destroying it. To me, ALWAYS replace both the waterpump & thermostat + it's retaining ring before assuming it's the HG!

Swapped in new pump and belts.

Car runs like a champ. Cooler than it's ever run. Belt is a little tight for my taste (really hear it whine), will retension it when I get back to Chicago.

Thanks to Schneider Autohaus in Santa Barbara for getting me in with no notice and taking care of it!

glad it worked out, and lart was denied a party.

check the sound of the belt running as you drive back to IL, it should go down a bit as it breaks in.
