Tried search and came up empty. On my 89 944, the drivers side view mirror won't go up or down but does move left to right. Thought at first it was the switch on the drivers door but the passenger mirror fully functions.

Any ideas... Thanks!

Does the electric motor run when you move the switch up and down? If yes, it is most likely the the plastic toothed gear inside the assembly. There are two gears and two motors ( one for vertical movement, the other for horizontal). I had a similar problem.

If the motor does not run, then it may be a bad motor, or a bad connection.

Others have documented how much fun it is to chase down electrical issues in these cars. For me, replacement of the entire assembly was the simple path.

Motor does not run when trying to move up and down. Hopefully its the connection. I'll take the glass out and clean the connectors. Thanks for the info.
