window (power) won't work
Hi all, the drivers window on my 86 951 stopped recently then started working again. Well today it stopped totally. Checked and cleaned the switch, plus swapped switch with another but to no avail. Will pull the trim off, but thought I should check if there was any known problems like drive gears or such before I try. Just checked 133 entries under power windows but no clues. Thanks

First, you might want to check the wiring, particularly as it passes out of the door (through the rubber thingy). I had an intermittent window failure passenger side that I traced to this area.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Does the other window work? If so, try switching out the passenger window switch on the driver side and see what happens. They form a circuit and when a switch goes bad, the driver window won't work.

switches are the usual failure items, if you have swapped with a working switch, however, then that is probably not your problem, try hitting the door panel just under the handle, in front of the pocket while you operate the switch. Sometimes the motors will fail, if it works when you bump it you will have to replace the window motor.

Window Switch
This thread was very helpful. My passenger window just stopped working. I used contact cleaner to clean the switches, no luck. I tried hitting the door near the motor and now the window works. I should get this checked out however, I just I'll wait until it's really broke. Or perhaps there's a loose wire. Any opinions.
Thanks folks.

Pull the speaker out and reach inside the door and unplug the window motor, connect a 12v test light across the motor plug and operate the switch, the bulb should illuminate, if it doesn't your problem is in the switch, wiring or feed circuit, if it does you need a new motor. Use a test lamp not a meter as a meter will not load the circuit enough to give a reliable test.
