Softtop will not open, help
I closed the softtop yesterday on my 1990 944 S2 and today it will not go down!
Having looked up parts there are two relays by the top motor (cost $10 each)
and one in the fuse box (cost $220)!!
Any one got any idea's on how to find the problem?

Second the microswitches. You have three, one above the visors, and two on the gearbox on the right (passenger) side. The one above the visors tell the system the top is closed/latched, and the two on the motor are the upper and lower limits.

Convert to manual. As said above it is free but also it is safer. The electric mechanism get out of sync and then they tend to twist and break main bows and they are hard to find and expensive when you find one.
Mine is manual and I find it a snap to open and close. Reality is that most of the time you want to have the cover snapped on it anyways so you have to get out of the car to put it on or take it off in which case opening and closing manually is actually faster and easier.

Thanks for all the input. Now two questions how do I get to the microswitch at the visor?
What would i do to make the car a manual instead of electric?

Lower the roof, remove the big plugs on either side, loosen the bolts on both sides (they don't need to be fully undone. 3 or 4 turns is good enough), and you're done. After you've done this do not use the switches that raise/lower the roof anymore. You can remove fuse and relays if you'd like.

It has been a while since I looked at one of these, but I believe the front microswitch is triggered by the alignment pins. And yes, there is one in there.
You can go manual to bypass the problem, but why? Be a man and fix it. It really isn't that difficult, and it is a good opportunity to learn more about your car.

Yes you're right, I see it on the schematic. It must be under the black cover in the windsheild frame. Mine must not be adjusted right since I used to blow fuses all the time when I first bought the car. I would try and lower the roof, but forget to unlatch it, and blow the fuse. Had the car about 20 years now but didn't realize there was a microswitch up there.

Thanks for everyone's input.
I finally got to the car today and some of you embarrassed me into fixing it.
Took off the cover on the header rail and on the drivers side I could see the arm on the micro switch jammed! Took off the latch and removed the micro switch. Tried to fix the arm without any luck.
Called the local Porsche dealer who said no problem I could have one for $650 as it only came as a full harness. Told them thanks and went back to the car.
After looking at the setup realised the switch looked for arm to be released and mine was jammed. Disconnected the micro switch and the top worked fine!!!
Put everything back together and it worked fine. One of the easiest fixes I have done and do not see any downside to my solution.
Thanks again for the encouragement to work on the problem.
