Default Rear wheel bearings 924S

Hi Guys,

I purchased am 87 924S about a year ago from a guy on this forum, and so far it's been great. It's my first sports car and I love it. However, after driving it for a few weeks I noticed a grumble from the right rear. I assumed it was the rear wheel bearing. Long story short, this weekend I finally got started changing it, and when I got the CV joint off and spun the hub on its own it definitely was making too much noise, so I know that is the problem. However, to my dismay I noticed it was a 2 bearing setup, with an inner and outer bearing. When I had done my research before hand I was under the impression that it was a one piece sealed bearing. (I bought the SKF from pelican parts and the Arnnworx removal tool.)

I noticed that the build date was 7/86, which I guess makes sense. However, since it is an early model is it possible I have an older style setup? When I searched for the VIN it still shows up as an 87. I attached it in case it may have any helpful information you guys would be able to spot. Any help for a newbie would be appreciated!

Just as an added note, I was able to pull that outer bearing without removing the snap ring. I assume that's a bad sign?

Well, I was worrying over nothing. The bearing race was pulled out when I removed the hub, which opened up that sealed bearing. I figured that out by looking over the Arnnworx procedure for removing the bearings. To remove that race, I bought a bearing splitter kit from harbor freight, which at first was too small. I fixed that by buying some longer bolts and then it worked like a charm. DO NOT buy the large bearing separator from them. It is totally dull and useless.

The Arnnworx tool is a real charm.
I replaced the bearings in the later aluminum arms i installed on my race car and removal and installation was a breeze,it`s also great for reinstalling your stub axle !

Cheers
Phil
