Porsche vs Contitech vs Gates balance shaft belt
I'm about to put some new belts on. Current ones are about 5yrs old and for various reasons (lack of time and spending too much time on stands for upgrades/restoration) car has driven ~2,000 miles in that time. Last time I changed them with OE Porsche timing and balance shaft belts. Water pump and rollers were done as well.
Belts are possibly fine for this year given the low mileage but as part of routine maintenance and since I have plans to drive it more, I will be replacing the timing and balance shaft belts while leaving the water pump and rollers. The timing belt is a no brainer. OE porsche belt is ~$40.
Balance shaft belt is a more difficult choice. OE porsche balance shaft belt is ~$145. Contitech is ~$75. Gates is ~$45.
Throwing a balance shaft belt is just as bad as anything since it usually takes out the timing belt when it goes. However for some reason I am inclined to use the Gates belt. I've always found them to be excellent on other cars and have no reason to think that it would not be a fine choice. So what are you guys using?
